A modern center replaces the 1938 facility
A new health center was inaugurated on July 28, 2025, in Baie Lazare, Seychelles. This modern building replaces the old center dating back to 1938, providing improved health services for the local population.
The project, fully funded by the government at a cost of approximately 9.2 million Seychelles rupees (USD 671,600), was completed after construction began in February 2024. During construction, residents continued to receive consultations through a temporary branch installed at the local primary school. The new facility now offers several services, including general consultations, prenatal support, an emergency unit, a pharmacy service, and physiotherapy sessions. A notable asset of the facility is its dental department, equipped with a modern X-ray system provided by the German Dental Association.
According to Peggy Vidot, Minister of Health, this is not just a building, but a concrete solution to improve the lives of residents through prevention and screening. The Director General of the healthcare agency, Dr. Danny Louange, reiterated the authorities’ commitment to ensuring uniform quality across the country. He stated that this project is part of a national program to improve existing facilities, with a view to obtaining accreditation in accordance with standards.
For his part, President Wavel Ramkalawan emphasized the importance of equitable access to healthcare in all districts of the archipelago. This new facility is one of the many initiatives undertaken to strengthen the healthcare system. The ceremony also featured testimonials from residents and activities prepared by students from the local primary school. Several prominent figures were present: members of the government, elected members of the National Assembly, medical professionals, and international partners.
