CSSM Opens a One-Stop Shop to Support Medical Evacuations

On July 28, 2025, the Mayotte Social Security Fund (CSSM) opened a one-stop shop dedicated to scheduled medical evacuations (Evasan).

Located at the Kinga Center in Kawéni, this service aims to simplify procedures for social security beneficiaries and better support people needing to be transferred outside Mayotte for specialized care. Until now, the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM) managed all Evasan requests, whether urgent or scheduled. With the increase in requests, this system was becoming difficult to manage.

The CSSM, in collaboration with the Regional Health Agency, the CHM, and the hospitals of Réunion Island, therefore set up this one-stop shop to ease the CHM’s workload and meet the needs of beneficiaries.

Scheduled medical evacuations (Evacuations) are planned air transportation for insured persons requiring a diagnosis, treatment, or medical follow-up not available in Mayotte. These requests must be approved by a specialized medical committee, which accepts approximately 90% of applications.

The counter welcomes insured persons without an appointment, receives and forwards applications to the committee, informs applicants and physicians of decisions, explains the process, and arranges air transportation if the request is accepted. Requests must be submitted by a physician using a form available on the CSSM website, accompanied by the necessary supporting documents.
