Towards faster and more flexible training
On May 14, 2025, Mauritius reached an important milestone in higher education. A workshop organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) at the Caudan Arts Centre in Port Louis validated a plan to generalize micro-credentials.
These micro-credentials are short training programs that allow students to quickly acquire specific skills. These modules are designed to help students better meet business expectations and facilitate their professional integration.
The plan, prepared over two years, establishes clear rules for these qualifications to be officially recognized and correspond to the levels of the National Qualifications Framework.
The Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, explained that this system will allow students to train faster and better adapt to the changing needs of the job market. He emphasized that these certificates must be well integrated into existing university curricula.
