Paying online is becoming easier in Madagascar
The Central Bank of Madagascar (BFM) officially presented the e-Ariary on May 23, 2025, in Antananarivo.
This is a new digital payment method designed to reduce the use of banknotes and coins in the country. Before its widespread implementation, a ten-month trial phase will be conducted with the help of several public and private sector partners. This period will allow for testing the system’s functionality in everyday life.
The Governor of the BFM, Andrianarivelo Aivo, explained that this solution is easy to use, accessible to all, and highly secure. He also emphasized that this system, thanks to its transparency, can help combat corruption.
This innovation complements existing mobile payment services. Designed to simplify everyday spending, this method allows users to pay bills, purchase products, or even pay for taxi-be transportation.
Opening a dedicated account with BFM provides access to this service. The goal is to modernize payments in Madagascar and promote the use of digital currency.
