Renewed partnership between AFD and the municipality
The municipality of M’Tsangamouji has just obtained a new €5 million loan from the French Development Agency (AFD). This is the third loan granted by AFD since 2018.
The first portion of this loan, amounting to €1.8 million, will be used to expand the town hall. The objective is to consolidate several services in a single building, such as the post office, the police station, and other municipal offices. According to the Mayor of M’Tsangamouji, Said Maanrifa Ibrahima, “this financing will also allow for other important projects: developing the soccer field, building a municipal technical center, repairing roads, and partially rebuilding the schools damaged by Cyclone Chido.”
This cyclone caused extensive damage in the town, estimated at between €6 and €7 million. Two schools lost their roofs. The situation will be difficult for the start of the school year, but the town hall has carried out basic work to accommodate students: false ceilings have been redone, electrical wires have been hidden, and class rotations are planned so that everyone can attend classes.
The Director of the AFD in Mayotte, Ivan Postel-Vinay, expressed his pleasure in supporting the municipality in its projects aimed at sustainable and inclusive development. The mayor also has several plans for the future. A 1,000-seat artificial turf stadium is currently under construction, with the support of the Department. He also hopes to build a movie theater. “Every loan we take out is used to improve life in our community and invest in the future of our youth,” he stated.
