UNDP honored for its work in the Comoros

Nehal Soneji Leaves the Comoros after Three Years of Mission

After three years of mission in the Comoros, Snehal Soneji, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), left his post on August 28.

A ceremony was held at Beit Salam Palace to recognize his commitment and work in the service of the country. The President of the Republic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Coordinator of the United Nations System, and several members of the presidential cabinet participated in the event.

The Head of State, Azali Assoumani, elevated Snehal Soneji to the rank of Knight of the Order of the Green Crescent of the Comoros. This distinction recognizes his commitment to development and his cooperation with local authorities. During his speech, the President recalled the numerous initiatives implemented under the leadership of the UNDP representative. The programs have strengthened governance and democracy, supported the empowerment of youth and women, protected the environment, fostered resilience to climate change, and enhanced the maritime economy. These actions have laid a solid foundation for sustainable development in the three main islands.

Moved, Snehal Soneji expressed his gratitude to the Comorian government and people for their support and collaboration. He emphasized that this recognition reflects collective effort and not individual accomplishment.

Soneji paid tribute to his teams, national and international collaborators, and all UNDP staff who contributed to the success of the projects. “The results achieved demonstrate a solid partnership between UNDP and the Comorian authorities, as well as the commitment of each team member,” he said.
