Madagascar and Switzerland wish to strengthen their partnership by exploring new areas of cooperation, such as the digital transition, training public officials, and local governance.
This commitment was affirmed during the Swiss National Day celebrations, held on August 1st in Ambohibao. Rasata Rafaravavitafika, Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the Malagasy Government. In her address, she conveyed President Andry Rajoelina’s best wishes to the Swiss people, saluting a friendly nation that shares strong values with the Great Island: democracy, active neutrality, human rights, and inclusive development.
The Minister also highlighted the reforms underway in Madagascar, notably the establishment of a more attractive legal framework for foreign investment, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation with reliable partners such as Switzerland.
Swiss Ambassador Stefano Toscano, for his part, recalled his country’s historic commitment to Madagascar. He highlighted concrete cooperation initiatives in several key sectors: community health, social protection, the environment, vocational training, and the fight against malnutrition. The diplomat also praised the continued involvement of Swiss actors in local development.
Faced with global challenges such as humanitarian crises and climate change, the Ambassador called for collective action based on law and solidarity. Stefano Toscano also emphasized the central role of International Geneva as a platform for multilateral dialogue.
