SADC: Mauritius focuses on industrialization and innovation

Mauritian Prime Minister calls for unity and development

Mauritius reaffirms its commitment to regional priorities, including industrialization, digital transformation, youth and women’s empowerment, the development of the blue economy, climate resilience, and economic integration through the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, participated yesterday in the 45th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in Madagascar.

During his speech, Ramgoolam emphasized cooperation between countries and the economic and social challenges facing the region. The summit’s theme, “Promoting Industrialization, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC,” comes at an important time in the face of climate change and economic instability.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to Dr. Emerson Mnangagwa, outgoing SADC Chair, for his work on food security, energy, and climate resilience.

He also congratulated Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina on his chairmanship and expressed confidence in Madagascar’s ability to strengthen the unity and cooperation of member states.
The Mauritian delegation was warmly welcomed, and condolences were conveyed to Zambia on the passing of former President Ngo Nguni.
Faced with economic challenges, Mauritius has launched reforms to stabilize the economy, modernize institutions, and create new opportunities. Innovation and digital governance are fundamental catalysts for development.
