Mauritius-Rwanda collaboration taken to new heights

Towards a strengthened economic partnership

New collaboration projects in important sectors were at the center of discussions between Emmanuel Hategeka, High Commissioner of Rwanda to Mauritius, and Mauritian President Dharam Gokhool, during a courtesy visit on August 11, 2025.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries, established since 2001, have been the subject of an in-depth assessment. Existing bilateral agreements, such as the Double Taxation Convention, were discussed, as well as the future creation of a joint commission intended to better monitor cooperation.

A renewal of the agreements is planned to better meet current needs. The discussions mainly focused on several key areas: financial services, investment, the fight against climate change, information technology and the air connection between Mauritius and Rwanda. The partnership between the Economic Development Board of Mauritius and the Rwandan authorities was highlighted as a key lever to boost trade and economic development.

In addition, the possibility of strengthening trade between the State Trading Corporation of Mauritius and its Rwandan counterparts was discussed. This visit follows the presentation of credentials by High Commissioner Emmanuel Hategeka to former President Pradeep Roopun in September 2024, a key milestone in the continued strengthening of bilateral ties.
