Comoros at the heart of discussions at the UN

The Comorian Head of State opens up to new partnerships

Bilateral strengthening in the fields of energy, the fight against climate change and tourism marked the meeting between the Comorian President, Azali Assoumani, and the Chancellor of Austria, Christian Stocker, at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Assoumani’s objective is to develop international cooperation and forge new partnerships to support the country’s development.

During the exchanges, the two leaders spoke about training and education. The latter discussed the possibility of granting scholarships to Comorian students and mobilizing Austrian expertise to strengthen national capacities in these strategic sectors. These initiatives aim to support the Comorian economy and prepare young people to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

The Head of State then met with Annalena Baerbock, President of the UN General Assembly. The latter praised his leadership, both at national and continental level. Azali Assoumani expressed his wish to see the UN session lead to concrete and ambitious resolutions, in particular on climate, security, energy and peace in the world.

On the sidelines of official meetings, the Comorian leader participated in the “corridor diplomacy”. The latter exchanged with King Abdullah II of Jordan and Emmanuel Macron, French President, during the Palestine Summit. These informal discussions made it possible to share points of view on various international topics and to strengthen ties with global partners.
