50 years of cooperation celebrated in Moroni

The fifty years of cooperation between the Comoros and China occupied the center of the celebrations of the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, organized this September 29 at the Retaj hotel in Moroni.

The event also marked the arrival of Ambassador Huang Zheng in his new role.

In his speech, the diplomat praised the friendship between the two countries and thanked all those who support China’s development and the partnership with the Comoros. The latter retraced the course of his country since 1949, highlighting the economic and social progress achieved thanks to the Chinese development model.

China’s GDP has grown from less than 70 billion yuan (9.8 billion USD) in the early 1950s to more than 126,000 billion in 2023, placing China among the world’s leading economies. Huang Zheng also presented Beijing’s vision for a peaceful and inclusive world, citing international initiatives such as “the Belt and the Road” and global development programs.

The meeting also recalled the solidity of the ties between the two countries despite the international challenges. The visit of Presidents Xi Jinping and Azali Assoumani to Beijing in September 2024 made it possible to elevate cooperation to the rank of strategic partnership, with particular support for the Emerging Comoros 2030 Plan.

The Comorian Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted China’s achievements in economic growth, technological innovation and poverty reduction. The latter expressed the pride of the Comoros to count China among its faithful partners and affirmed that the appointment of Huang Zheng will contribute to further strengthening bilateral relations, to the benefit of both peoples.
