104 graduates to boost the maritime sector

Two new awards recognize excellence at the Seychelles Maritime Academy

On May 27, 2025, the Seychelles Maritime Academy (SMA) celebrated the graduation of 104 students at the International Conference Centre of Seychelles (ICCS).

President Wavel Ramkalawan and First Lady Linda Ramkalawan were present for the event. These graduates have received solid training to work in this sector, a vital sector for Seychelles. Captain Mahesa Abeynayake, Director of the SMA, explained that these young professionals are ready to help the country manage its marine resources and strengthen maritime safety.

This year, two new awards were created, including one by the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, to recognize the best students. The highest distinction, the President’s Cup for Outstanding Athlete, was awarded to Eliel Meriza, recognized for his discipline and leadership.

Many important officials were present, such as Minister of Education Dr. Justin Valentin, Minister of Fisheries Jean-François Ferrari, as well as military and police leaders. Their presence demonstrates the importance placed on training for the country’s development.
