Towards sustainable and profitable production
The Minister of Agriculture, Daniel Ali Badar, affirms that Comoros vanilla represents the best quality in Africa, during a ceremony to hand over equipment intended to revitalize this emblematic crop.
Daniel Ali Badar underlines the importance of combining traditional know-how and modern technologies in order to ensure more competitive and sustainable production. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the sector’s position on the international market and attracting new producers to this crop with high economic potential.
Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Comorian Office of Cash Products, the ceremony brought together several partners, including the Afidev project and the French Development Agency (AFD). Several cooperatives, including Maecha Lavani and Lavani Ndjema, have benefited from essential equipment – thermometers, scales and wax paper – in order to improve the quality of the product and meet the growing demands of international buyers.
The Minister also emphasizes the importance of a sustainable approach. In particular, by highlighting mechanisms such as geographical indication and certification to better promote local production. Thus, he expresses his optimism about the impact of these efforts, hoping that this modernization will revive the sector while improving the living conditions of farmers. Thanks to increased technical support and adapted equipment, Comorian vanilla could thus strengthen its attractiveness on global markets.
