Madagascar hosts a high-level FAO mission Food
Food security has been a central focus of the official mission led by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu to Madagascar since July 23, 2025.
This three-day visit aims to strengthen the transformation of food systems on the Big Island, in line with national development objectives. Prime Minister Christian Ntsay welcomed the UN delegation at the State Palace in Mahazoarivo. Discussions focused on the implementation of a strategic plan to improve agricultural production while ensuring positive impacts for rural households, according to the official press release.
The Head of Government emphasized the importance of expanding arable land through irrigation, local production of quality seeds and fertilizers, and strengthening production capacities in the face of climate change.
Several ministries took part in this cooperation, including those responsible for agriculture and livestock, fisheries and the blue economy, as well as the environment and sustainable development. The discussions laid the foundations for a joint action plan focused on sustainable agricultural practices, sound management of natural resources, and the promotion of agricultural and fisheries sectors.
The UN agency is committed to supporting Madagascar by sending technical experts, launching innovative pilot projects, and mobilizing international funding. The objective is to increase agricultural productivity, ensure better food security, and support producers’ incomes.
