A new lease of life for Comorian vanilla

Towards a New Strategy for Agricultural Products

The Comorian Office for Cash Products (OCPR) is off to a fresh start. The outgoing Director, Ismaila Mohamed, officially handed over the reins to his successor, Anlyane Anlim, during a ceremony attended by the Minister of the Interior and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Ismaila Mohamed gave a positive assessment of his years at the helm of the OCPR. The former director mentioned the reduction of salary arrears from five months to zero, and an increased payroll. Mohamed also highlighted the revival of the Shamle power plant and the renovation of the Office building, thanks to a partnership with the French Development Agency. “The institution has acquired a solid legal status,” he recalled.

For his part, the new Director, Anlyane Anlim, praised the welcome received and acknowledged the magnitude of the challenges ahead. Among the priorities: selling the 50 tons of vanilla currently in stock. “It’s my duty to find potential customers,” he said. Aware of the expectations, Anlim intends to revive the entire cash crop sector. “Vanilla is our oil. My ambition is to revitalize and boost this sector,” he declared.

The Comorian Association of Cash Crop Exporters (ACEPR) expresses confidence and places “great hopes” in this change. A new chapter is thus opening for the OCPR, with the challenge of making the Comoros’ green gold shine once again.
