This inauguration represents a decisive step towards the local promotion of Ivorian cocoa, strengthening Côte d’Ivoire’s position as a major player in agricultural industrial transformation in Africa.
A Major Investment for Local Cocoa Processing
The Transcao PK24 industrial complex, with a total investment of 130 billion CFA francs, was inaugurated on June 26, 2025, in the Akoupé-Zeudji industrial zone, west of Abidjan. This cocoa grinding factory has an initial processing capacity of 50,000 tons, with the potential to expand to 210,000 tons within the next two years. The site covers 21 hectares and also includes a storage warehouse with a capacity of 160,000 tons, a training center for cocoa and chocolate trades, and an administrative building.
A Project Born from Côte d’Ivoire-China Cooperation
This industrial complex is the result of cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and China, symbolizing a strategic advancement for the country, the world’s leading cocoa producer. According to Yves Brahima Koné, director of the Coffee-Cocoa Council, this factory marks “the culmination of a path full of obstacles” and reflects Côte d’Ivoire’s determination to invest in the entire cocoa value chain, from production to processing.
Job Creation and Skills Development
The construction of Transcao PK24 has created 1,400 direct jobs. The integrated training center aims to develop local skills in cocoa and chocolate-related professions, aligning with the goal of further industrializing the sector and producing finished products that meet international standards, particularly in chocolate and cocoa-based cosmetics.
A Key Step in Côte d’Ivoire’s Economic Strategy
The Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, emphasized that this factory embodies the presidential vision for a structural transformation of the Ivorian economy. The project strengthens the link between production, processing, and local consumption, positioning Côte d’Ivoire in a dynamic of local value addition for its agricultural resources.
Complementarity with Other Industrial Facilities
Transcao PK24 complements the San-Pedro factory, located in the southwest of the country, which has a similar capacity of 50,000 tons. Together, these two industrial units provide a total processing capacity of 100,000 tons, with prospects for expansion to 210,000 tons in the coming years.
