Sérgio Pimenta appointed CEO of Africa50

Sérgio Pimenta has been appointed Managing Director of the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund (IAF) at Africa50, the pan-African infrastructure investment platform. The announcement was made on September 30, 2025, from Casablanca, Morocco, Africa50’s headquarters.

The executive has more than 25 years of experience at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), leading nearly 800 staff in Africa and overseeing a $17 billion portfolio. Pimenta has established himself as a specialist in mobilizing private capital and leading complex projects in infrastructure, agribusiness, and services.

In his new role, the executive will lead the IAF, a 12-year closed-end private equity fund. This fund aims to close Africa’s infrastructure gap and has already raised $275 million from 22 African and international institutional investors.
