Transport: LRS at the heart of diplomatic exchanges

First official meeting between Paul Brummell and the Minister of Transport

The Light Rail System (LRS) was the focus of discussions during the courtesy visit of Paul Brummell, British High Commissioner to Mauritius, to the Minister of Land Transport, Mahomed Osman Cassam Mahomed, on August 18, 2025, in Port Louis.

This was his first official meeting with the Minister, which he described as warm and productive. The discussions focused on the operation and development of the LRS, an important project to improve mobility in the country. Brummell praised this service as a useful tool for residents, while recalling the collaboration between Mauritius and the United Kingdom through Crossrail, a British company that provides technical advice to the Ministry of Transport.

The High Commissioner also mentioned the Minister’s interest in the British model of public transport, particularly the Oyster card system. The latter expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport.
“This meeting demonstrates the willingness of both countries to continue their partnership and work together to develop public transport in Mauritius,” he stated.

It should be noted that this official was appointed High Commissioner to Mauritius in July 2025. He previously served as Ambassador to Latvia (2021-2025) and Romania (2014-2018), and held diplomatic posts in the Caribbean and Central Asia.
