A center paving the way to independence
A new Vocational Training Center (VTC) opened its doors on August 18, 2025, in North East Point. The facility aims to help people with disabilities gain confidence and become more independent.
The VTC offers training that enables beneficiaries to better integrate and thrive in society. The facility was built by Turnkey Solutions Pty Ltd for SCR 4.9 million (USD 303,800). The government’s goal is to provide quality training opportunities for all.
During the ceremony, President Ramkalawan unveiled a commemorative plaque. The Minister of Youth, Sports and Family Affairs, Marie-Celine Zialor, presented the center’s new logo, designed by Kurt Pool. “This logo uses colors to represent different types of disabilities: red for physical disabilities, yellow for neurodivergent disorders, white for hidden disabilities, blue for mental health, and green for sensory disabilities. In the center, an outstretched hand symbolizes support and new opportunities,” she said.
The Principal Secretary of the Department of Family Affairs, Mike Morel, explained that the institute brings hope and opportunity to people with disabilities. He emphasized that inclusion must enable everyone to find employment and participate fully in society.
The ceremony was enlivened by songs, dances, and recitals from the institution’s students. The Head of State and the First Lady received tokens of appreciation. Ministers and members of the government, as well as parliamentarians, were also present.
