Launch of 80 housing units in the Orchid Village

USD 7.3 million invested in sustainable housing in Grand Anse Mahé

Construction of 80 new affordable housing units began on August 1, 2025, in the Orchid Village. Among these units, 32 have two bedrooms and 48 have three bedrooms.

The project, managed by Ascent Project Limited, will last 24 months. The project is being funded by the United Arab Emirates government to the tune of USD 7.3 million. The ceremony was attended by President Wavel Ramkalawan, First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, and Vice President Ahmed Afif. Also present were Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi, UAE Chargé d’Affaires, and Billy Rangasamy, Minister of Lands and Housing, who laid the foundation stone and symbolic tree planting to mark the start of construction.

Minister Rangasamy expressed his gratitude to the UAE government for this support. In addition, the announcement was made regarding the construction of wastewater treatment plants for several neighborhoods, in line with the country’s sustainable development goals.

Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi emphasized that this project goes beyond a simple financial investment. This gesture also symbolizes the friendship and solidarity between Seychelles and the United Arab Emirates, with the aim of improving the living conditions of the residents. The Head of State recalled that this project is one of three major initiatives funded by the United Arab Emirates, alongside the rehabilitation of the English River and the Anse Royale sports complex. “The Orchid Village has been presented as a place of pride for the entire nation,” he added.

Local Member of Parliament, Waven William, called on future residents to honor their financial commitments and properly maintain their homes to ensure a pleasant and harmonious living environment. The ceremony brought together several members of the government, elected officials, ministerial officials, and district residents.
