Second wave of buses received as part of the national project
One hundred new buses have arrived in Madagascar. This delivery is part of the public transportation modernization project.
This is the second wave of a total of 312 buses ordered. The remaining 170 buses are expected in August. Led by the Malagasy government, this project aims to improve public transportation, both in the city and on the outskirts. “The ambition is to build a more orderly, more accessible network that is better adapted to user expectations,” explained President Andry Rajoelina last June. The delivered buses come in different colors.
This color diversity makes it easier for passengers to recognize the lines. This also simplifies regulation by the authorities. Furthermore, operators can better organize their routes in urban and peri-urban areas, according to the official press release. The first wave included black and orange buses. The next buses will be beige, red, green, or blue, depending on the decisions validated by the national technical commission.
Moreover, the distribution of these buses is not limited to the capital. Some large provincial cities will also receive them, depending on local priorities and needs.
As a reminder, the modernization plan was officially launched on June 24, 2025. This program calls for the arrival of 312 buses, including 12 electric and 300 diesel-powered. As of June, 42 units have already been delivered. “This project will also have a significant social impact.
The creation of 1,500 jobs is planned, including 200 in the first phase. Training and professional integration for women are also encouraged,” the Head of State stated. The new buses are distinguished by their modernity. Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and access ramps for people with reduced mobility are now standard equipment, a first in Madagascar.
