Senegal: Launch of a program to train engineers

Senegal officially launched on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Dakar, an excellence scholarship program aimed at strengthening the training of engineers in key sectors such as energy and mining. This initiative is part of the long-term national strategy “Senegal Vision 2050” and seeks to prepare a new generation of professionals capable of meeting the country’s energy, environmental, and mining challenges.

A Strong Public-Private Partnership

This program is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines and Vivo Energy Senegal. It provides full coverage of study costs, including tuition fees, living expenses, transportation, as well as computer equipment and learning materials. Scholarships can reach 9 million CFA francs for local training and up to 15 million CFA francs for studies abroad.

Comprehensive Support Beyond Funding

In addition to financial aid, the program offers comprehensive support: practical internshipspersonalized mentoringmaterial assistance, and academic monitoring are integrated to ensure academic and professional success of beneficiaries. This approach also builds on the success of Vivo Energy’s “Talent Junior” initiative, which has trained nearly 200 young people with a 98% employment rate.

Eligibility Criteria and Commitment

Student applicants must meet academic excellence criteria and commit to serving Senegal after their studies, in line with the country’s conventional conditions for awarding excellence scholarships. The program primarily targets motivated young people wishing to invest in the development of the energy and mining sectors.

Strategic Stakes for Sustainable Development

This scholarship program is part of a broader context of strengthening Senegalese and African human capital. It aims particularly to meet the growing demand for qualified engineers facing challenges related to the sustainable management of natural resources and the energy transition. Through this initiative, Senegal confirms its determination to strategically invest in higher education to support its economic and technological development.
