Baba Soumaré has been appointed Deputy Director-General of the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO), strengthening Senegal’s presence on the international stage. With over 25 years of experience, he has established himself as a recognized expert in animal health, veterinary public health, and the fight against emerging pandemics.
Soumaré notably led the largest multidisciplinary team in FAO’s ECTAD program, with operations in over 50 countries across four continents. This appointment comes shortly after Senegalese Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, Dr. Mabouba Diagne, was elected President of the 44th FAO Conference, underscoring Senegal’s continued commitment to international issues related to food security and veterinary governance.
