A modern cold storage facility inaugurated

Strengthened food security in Seychelles

The Seychelles Trading Company (STC) inaugurated a new, modern cold storage facility in Bois de Rose on June 13, 2025.

The official ceremony was led by President Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan and Vice President Ahmed Afif. This new facility will help the country better preserve fruits, vegetables, and meat, ensuring a better food supply. This warehouse, entirely funded by STC, cost 110 million Seychelles rupees (USD 8 million). It is the company’s largest investment to date. This facility was specifically built to keep food fresher for longer, while meeting strict quality and safety standards. The Head of State expressed his satisfaction: “This is a major step forward for our country. This warehouse demonstrates our commitment to protecting food security and helping the population.” STC Managing Director Ashik Hassan added that the technology used is modern, environmentally friendly, and efficient. He believes the facility will help STC better manage inventory and deliver quality products.

STC Board Chairman Imtiaz Umarji explained that this facility is critical to reducing food waste, stabilizing prices, and providing affordable fresh food for all. This project is part of the government’s efforts to improve food security, support the local economy, and promote sustainable development.
