The government launches the digitalization of CNTEMAD

A decisive step towards an inclusive and modern university

A new phase is dawning for higher education in Madagascar. The National Center for Tele-Learning (CNTMAD) is preparing to become the country’s first public digital university.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, June 4, marking the official start of the process. Through this project, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in collaboration with the Ministry of Posts, is focusing on a new form of learning: modern, accessible, and adapted to the realities of the region.

With its 52 centers spread across the island, the center plays a key role. However, some areas, particularly rural ones, face a shortage of teachers. The proposed solution is based on a digital platform open to all students, regardless of their location. An internet connection becomes the only tool needed to access quality courses.

The program also includes the creation of a specialized studio to produce educational videos. Thanks to this system, lectures can be viewed at any time. Diplomas will also be converted to digital format, with a simple and reliable verification system.

Today, more than 17,000 students already benefit from CNTMAD training. By 2029, this number could increase to 49,000. The transition will take place in stages over four years, with blended teaching initially.

The vision behind this project: to make Malagasy universities an inclusive space, capable of bridging distances and social barriers, making knowledge accessible to everyone, everywhere in the country.
