Antananarivo: A Clean-up Campaign Launched in All Neighborhoods
The President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina, visited Ankasina on May 12, 2025, to listen to residents’ grievances and announce new actions to improve their daily lives.
The Head of State was accompanied by the Minister of Decentralization and Regional Planning, Naina Andriantsitohaina, and the Mayor of Antananarivo, Harilala Ramanantsoa.
During this visit, the President made several commitments. Rajoelina announced the cleaning of blocked canals, which are often responsible for flooding, especially during the rainy season. The Head of State also promised to continue rehabilitating damaged alleyways, to build toilet blocks to improve public hygiene, and to develop sports fields for young people in each district.
These new initiatives complement the achievements already underway through the PRODUIR project, a government-supported program. To date, this project has renovated 11 km of alleyways, made 41 km of roads accessible, built 6 km of bridges, and rehabilitated 1.6 km of canals. A library, a car wash, and street lighting have also been installed. In total, more than 400,000 people benefit from this infrastructure.
The President also emphasized the importance of citizen involvement. He launched a major campaign to clean drainage canals in all districts of the capital. A reward system will be implemented to motivate residents to actively participate.
Finally, an aid distribution operation has begun in the 1st arrondissement, targeting families living in the most vulnerable areas. This assistance will soon be extended to the other districts of Antananarivo.
