Towards a new era for the IUT of Moroni

The university is modernizing to accommodate 1,000 students by 2026

The Moroni University Institute of Technology (IUT) is beginning a rehabilitation and expansion phase to improve the quality of higher education in the Comoros.

This project, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) to the tune of 750 million Comorian francs (USD 1.67 million), aims to increase the institute’s capacity and adapt its programs to the country’s needs.

Today, the IUT of Moroni accommodates more than 400 students, but with the ongoing work, the university will soon be able to accommodate up to 1,000. The project includes the expansion of classrooms, the construction of an administrative building, and a modern laboratory to provide better study conditions.

In addition to infrastructure, the project includes a review of the training programs. The Institute’s Director, Ahmed Bacar, announced the creation of eleven new programs, with training adapted to current challenges. Among the new offerings are two professional bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering: one in building and public works, the other in eco-construction.

Other programs will also be offered, such as university diplomas of technology (DUT) in industrial maintenance, energy, and sustainable agriculture. A master’s degree in computer science will also be created, with specializations in computer security and artificial intelligence.

The new center will be ready for the 2026-2027 academic year. “This project marks an important step in the modernization of higher education in the Comoros, by providing students with quality training that meets the needs of the job market,” added Ahmed Bacar.
