330 actions planned in 2026 with the United Nations

A Budget of Over $32 Million for the Annual Work Plan (AWP)

For 2026, the Annual Work Plan (AWP) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2022-2026 includes 330 interventions in the Comoros, with an overall budget estimated at $32,917,165.

The signing ceremony took place on April 20 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event brought together the Minister of Economy, acting as interim Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moustoifa Hassani Mohamed, and the UN Resident Coordinator, James Bot, as well as several national officials.

This plan is the result of collaborative work between UN agencies and Comorian partners, following the evaluation of the 2025 plan. It aims to better coordinate development actions and address the country’s priorities, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

A large portion of the activities is dedicated to the environment and sustainable development. This sector represents 46% of planned actions and 47% of the budget. Projects focus on biodiversity protection, access to drinking water, the development of clean energy sources such as solar and geothermal energy, and combating the effects of climate change.

The economic component also plays a significant role. This area includes the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), strengthening food security, promoting youth and women’s entrepreneurship, and developing the blue economy.

In the social sphere, the United Nations will continue to support the health, nutrition, and social protection sectors. These sectors will also support efforts to combat violence against children, youth, and women.

According to the authorities, this partnership demonstrates strong and effective cooperation. This agreement is also aligned with the Comoros Emerging 2030 plan. For officials, the year 2026 marks an important step before a new cooperation framework planned for 2027-2030.
