Strengthened Cooperation Through Discussions
Seven bilateral agreements were signed between Seychelles and Mauritius, covering agriculture, fisheries, culture, training, and capacity building.
A joint declaration also supports the sustainable development of the Mascare Continental Shelf Joint Management Area.
The President of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, accompanied by the First Lady, Véronique Herminie, is making this official visit at the invitation of the Mauritian Prime Minister, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of independence and the 34th anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius.
The visit began with a courtesy call at State House, where President Herminie was received by Dharambeer Gokhool, President of Mauritius. The two leaders discussed their respective careers and the importance of public service, good governance, and national unity.
Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, established in 1988, and on cooperation in several strategic sectors: investment, education, culture, tourism, trade, maritime security, and the blue economy. Climate resilience, sustainable tourism, fisheries development, and the situation of the Chagossian community in Seychelles were also addressed.
An expanded bilateral meeting followed. This exchange provided an opportunity to review existing partnerships and explore new opportunities in trade, financial services, sustainable energy, education, and capacity building. President Herminie announced the upcoming opening of a Seychelles diplomatic mission in Mauritius, an initiative that Prime Minister Ramgoolam pledged to reciprocate.
