Launch of “Mwana Credits” to support farmers

Up to 90% Subsidies for Farms

The department provides subsidies covering up to 90% of the eligible amounts, while the bank advances these funds in the form of short-term loans so that farmers can quickly access financing.

This program, called “Mwana Crédits,” was launched on February 5th at the Coconi Rural Center of Excellence, a symbolic site for local agriculture.

The partnership agreement was signed by Ben Issa Ousseni, President of the department, and Didier Grand, Managing Director of the regional bank. According to the President, “Mwana Crédits is a concrete and simple solution for our farmers to finance their projects and avoid cash flow difficulties.”

Thanks to this program, farmers can invest in the construction of livestock buildings, the installation of mobile greenhouses, or the purchase of agricultural equipment. In addition to the short-term loan, medium-term loans are offered to supplement financing and adapt to the specific needs of farmers.

Beyond financing, Mwana Crédits aims to modernize and professionalize local agricultural sectors. Subsidies and management delegation decisions enable better organization of farms and encourage community participation in the sustainable management of natural resources.

The project is also part of an approach to economic development and food sovereignty. “Supporting our farmers means securing their projects, strengthening local supply chains, and creating jobs on the island,” he added.

With this program, farmers have the necessary resources to develop their farms, secure their investments, and improve the competitiveness of agricultural sectors. Mwana Crédits addresses financial difficulties on the ground and contributes to making agriculture more stable and productive in Mayotte.
