Comoros connects its islands with the Yameela ferry

Growth Engine for Transport and Trade

The Comoros has just welcomed a new ferry, Yameela, which now operates between Mutsamudu and Moroni.

The launching ceremony, held on Thursday, September 11, was held at the Ahmed Abdallah Abderemane International Port in Mutsamudu, in the presence of President Azali Assoumani, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Juma Rashid Al Rumaithi, and several government officials.

The ferry is 54 meters long and 16 meters wide, with a capacity of 190 passengers and 45 vehicles. Its equipment includes life jackets for adults and children to ensure passenger safety. The vessel sails at a maximum speed of 12 knots and a service speed of 10 knots, complementing the national fleet, which already includes the Acadie and Sgtm Maria Galanta ferries.

The President presented Yameela as a key element in improving mobility and stimulating economic activity between the islands. He highlighted the role of public-private partnerships and collaboration with the United Arab Emirates to modernize maritime transport.

According to Acting Governor Rastami Mouhidine, this ferry facilitates inter-island travel and promotes the growth of trade. The boat transports both residents and vehicles, helping to bring the islands closer together and strengthen social and economic unity.

The Minister of Maritime and Air Transport, Yasmine Hassane Alfeine, added that Yameela represents an important step towards modernizing the sector. She noted that this ferry simplifies trade, provides a secure transportation option, and improves the competitiveness of Comorian ports.

For Serdal CEO Abdulaziz Zayed Alshamsi, the collaboration is not limited to maritime transport. The company also plans investments in education, tourism and health, in order to support the overall development of the archipelago.
