Mohamed El Kettani was named “African Banker of the Year” at the 2025 AFIS Awards in Casablanca, during the Africa Financial Industry Summit (AFIS). This award recognizes his 18 years of leadership at the helm of the Attijariwafa bank group and his role in developing finance in Africa.
Since 2007, the CEO has transformed the bank into a group with a presence in 15 countries and 5,900 branches, while strengthening its position in Morocco. He has launched innovative projects, such as a $500 million green bond to finance renewable energy projects across the continent.
The jury praised his financial performance, his strong African roots, and his commitment to sustainable finance. In 2024, consolidated net income increased by 29%, demonstrating the strength of his strategy.
Mohamed El Kettani has also developed partnerships with Union Bank Nigeria and the AfCFTA Secretariat, supporting local SMEs and intra-African trade. His appointment shows that a bank can combine profitability and responsibility while contributing to the economic and sustainable development of the continent.
