Strengthening cooperation among African countries
The Malagasy President is increasing his international engagements, embarking on official visits to Guinea-Bissau and Angola following a bilateral meeting with the French President last Friday.
Andry Rajoelina’s African tour emphasizes South-South cooperation. The first stop of the Iavoloha resident’s tour is Guinea-Bissau. After meeting his French counterpart in Paris, Andry Rajoelina is heading to Africa.
He has been invited by the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoko Embalo, and the President of Angola, João Lourenço.
This state visit represents the highest level of diplomatic exchange between countries. At first glance, Madagascar aims to strengthen its relations with these two West African states. A source from the presidency explains that these trips align with the diplomatic policy pursued by President Rajoelina—economic diplomacy focused on cooperation between developing countries, particularly among southern nations.
Since taking office, the President of the Republic has emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation among African countries. Bilateral agreements are expected to be concluded during these state visits, which is why government members are part of the presidential delegation.
