Occupational health at the heart of the exchanges in Mutsamudu

Experts from Madagascar, Mauritius and the Comoros are mobilizing

Madagascar, Mauritius and the Comoros have placed occupational health at the center of their discussions. From September 23 to 25, the Mutsamudu Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a three-day workshop dedicated to prevention at work.

Organized by the ILO in partnership with Modec, this session brought together about twenty Comorian companies and administrations, while experts from Madagascar and Mauritius followed the online debates.

The exchanges focused on the theme « Occupational safety and health: challenges and priorities ». The participants discussed the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases, the fight against STIs/ HIV, and practices aimed at establishing a safe and productive working environment. The emphasis was placed on the importance of identifying risks upstream to protect employees and support business performance.

The schedules and the organization of the work have aroused lively discussions. The participants recommended assessing the risks specific to each structure and proposing appropriate solutions. Among the avenues mentioned: teleworking and the implementation of anonymous listening devices for employees. All the measures discussed have been designed to correspond to local realities.

Asnaya Mourtadhoi, human resources manager of the CCIA, welcomed this initiative.  » Bringing together actors from different backgrounds makes it possible to strengthen the well-being of employees. Prevention constitutes a major social and economic lever, because workers represent a key factor of competitiveness. This meeting offers a valuable opportunity to build a more productive and inclusive work environment, » she explained.

Frédéric Mula, ILO Country Director in the Indian Ocean, recalled the organization’s commitment. The protection of workers represents an important issue in the Comoros*.*  » Awareness of the risks remains low, and the ILO is accompanying the country to improve this situation« , he affirmed.

Dube Tadiwanashe Rhoda, representative of the ILO, widened her gaze.  » Issues related to professional well-being concern all workplaces, from offices to markets. Investing in safe and healthy conditions promotes productivity and supports the national economy, » she added.
