A Strong Gesture to Strengthen Food Security in Ghana
Morocco recently made a significant donation of 2,000 tons of fertilizer to Ghana as part of enhanced bilateral cooperation between the two countries. This initiative aims to support Ghana’s upcoming agricultural campaign by improving the productivity of local farmers and strengthening the country’s food security.
This gesture is part of Morocco’s pan-African strategy, notably led by the public company OCP, one of the world’s largest fertilizer Production.
An Expanded Partnership Around Local Fertilizer Production
Beyond the donation, Morocco is assisting Ghana in building a modern fertilizer manufacturing plant on its soil. This project aims to reduce dependency on imports and promote sustainable local production.
Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, emphasized that this technical and industrial support is part of broader cooperation between Rabat and Accra, which also includes scholarships and professional training.
Support for Youth and education
As part of this cooperation, Morocco has also doubled the number of scholarships offered to Ghanaian students, bringing the total to 140 per year. Additionally, pilot training programs in Moroccan schools are offered to young Ghanaians, further strengthening educational and professional exchanges between the two countries.
A Favorable Diplomatic context
This cooperation comes shortly after Ghana withdrew its recognition of the Polisario Front and affirmed its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara, opening a new chapter in relations between Rabat and Accra. Several African countries, including Kenya, have also expressed support for Morocco’s position, further isolating the Algerian regime on this issue.
Sustainable Strategic Partnership
Morocco and Ghana are also preparing to hold a major Business Forum in October 2025 in Morocco, which will provide a platform for economic exchanges and investments.
